How bearable is having a Trans-Oesophageal Echocardiogram done?

Dr. Kanigan-Igham, you're having a transesophageal echocardiogram. Is this something that most people tolerate okay? Absolutely, so the vast majority of people tolerate it well and that's with the right sedation so it's really important that you are given the right amount of sedation, that you tolerate having the procedure done and you know the idea behind the sedation is not to completely knock you out, it's to make you tolerate it and you know the majority of my patients that I've done a TOE on, you know, barely even recall having the procedure done because the sedation is so good. So, you know, it's really important to make sure that you give the right amount of sedation and that the patient tolerates it because obviously what we don't want is for it to be uncomfortable.
