So the reasons for putting a pacemaker are multiple, but the most common reasons are because the heart is going too slow and this can cause symptoms for example blacking out, passing out or other milder symptoms such as breathlessness. What a pacemaker does is when it's placed in the lesion in the heart it can deliver this pacing to keep the heart rate above a certain number so it doesn't and it can remove some of the symptoms that patients have associated with the slow heart rates.
