What is a pacemaker

Hello Dr. Leung. Hello. We're going to talk briefly about what is a pacemaker I think. Yes, so a pacemaker is a little device that we sometimes put into patients to help them with their heart rhythm problems. So it consists of basically a battery. It's about this big, very very thin. that's put under often just the left shoulder and connected to a number of leads, most commonly two leads that are put through a vein into the heart itself. That can then deliver what we call pacing, which are brief electrical pulses to help the heart rate stay at a certain rate and in some cases to help the heart be in a more coordinated or synchronized manner.
