What sort of scans can you have for a cardiac health check?

Dr. Kanagan-Igam, a lot of people have these health checks these days. Is it of any use to have an echocardiogram or a stress echocardiogram for a health check? Yeah absolutely. So I mean obviously CT scans are very popular for health checks but obviously you don't want to have CT scans again and again because obviously they involve some radiation dose even though it's a low dose. Whereas you can have let's say a bicycle stress echocardiogram or a treadmill stress echocardiogram that involves no radiation whatsoever and so you're just cycling away and we get your heart rate up to a certain number and we take pictures of the heart and then whilst we're taking pictures of the heart we can identify that all the bits of the muscle are moving appropriately and so identify that you've got no significant narrowings in the arteries without any form of radiation just with some natural exercise. In fact we don't even have to give you dye if the pictures of the heart are good enough so really it's just as though you were cycling on a bicycle and we're able to get enough information to say that there's no significant furrowing or narrowings in the arteries.
