Remarkable findings from patient survey in Hounslow, West London

We're here in West London and we've got a large of Asian population, people with diabetes. You did a study here I think in the diabetic population, what did you find? Over 90% of the population I actually interviewed, many of them didn't understand their condition and when I asked why, they said because they hadn't been told they've given some advice on perhaps their what to eat what not to eat that kind of thing and when I asked the doctors why they didn't tell the patients they didn't want to frighten the patient. Do you think that may have an effect on their ability to look after themselves these people? Yeah because they can't make an informed decision about anything without the information and what I found was many of them aren't making any changes at all because they don't know the outcome of diabetes. Education is key, information is key in fact. Absolutely.
