My experience of Coronary Bypass Surgery

Right, you've had a coronary artery bypass grafting yourself. Yes. How did you feel when you woke up from your surgery? Alive. Yeah. In actual fact what they said was they've never seen anyone come out of the procedure quite so quickly and the first thing I wanted to do was get out of bed and go home. Yeah. And I really wanted to go to the toilet yeah only to be told I don't need to move because I got a nurse at the end of the bed for four hours I don't need to do that because I've got a catheter in hmm and I thought oh no that was one thing I was actually dreading yeah having a catheter in anyway I went by it and I was in hospital for a week they were telling us that to clear some of our lungs and stuff like that we had to roll up a towel cross our chest and cough I didn't want to do that no way there were people in hospital have been there for two weeks still doing that I was only in for a week although it's nice to go home there was also the feeling of security actually being in hospital in case something went wrong so that took a little bit of getting used to when I got home and it was over a Christmas period as well but in a very short period of time once the Christmas was over I was out walking from Isleworth into Houselown and back again every day but I did find it a struggle to sleep I couldn't lay down flat I had to sleep with a v-pillow quite often I didn't sleep at all during the night I was looking out the window watching the well go by, but I just wanted to get back to normal life. That was the first couple of weeks after your procedure when you were at home? That's right. And you were only in for a week? I was only in for a week.
