Problems with access to healthcare facilities with limited mobility

Anthea, in terms of mobility, you are a little bit restricted compared to how you used to be because of joint problems. How has this restriction, or disability you might say, affected your access to healthcare? Considerably, unless I have either used hospital transport to get me to and from appointments or taxes to go to meetings with the NHS, I can't go and I can't get out unaided anymore. And I've also deteriorated to the extent that I'm now having to walk with one of these frames in my house and when I go out I have to go in a wheelchair and be pushed by somebody else because some years ago I damaged both my arms and shoulders and I can't use crutches and I can't mobilize by myself. Apart from the transport being difficult, access to buildings? I can't manage steps So they've kindly provided a ramp as the entrance to my building. Thank goodness we've got a lift. When that goes out of order, I was once stuck up here for three weeks while they tried to get it mended. And if anybody thinks God, doesn't her hair look awful? The hairdresser across the way at the Harbour Club, they've been refurbishing there. Their lift's been out of order so I haven't been able to get my hair done since May. It's been a rather long time. How about hospitals and clinics and things? Are they generally okay? Access, yes, through hospital transport. I have to use that. I can't manage otherwise because I can't actually walk far enough. You were saying access to hospitals is not too bad with transport. Hospital transport generally okay? Generally okay. Cancer can be problematic from time to time. As last Thursday when the hospital I was visiting ran out of ambulances and drivers. And from an appointment at three o'clock in the afternoon I didn't get home until half past ten at night. That was really grim. A lot of people do comment on how long you end up being out of the house for on a trip because you need to wait. Yes, they always tell you, oh, within the hour. Well, last Thursday it was within five hours. I was running a clinic on Saturday and a gentleman had to wait for about three hours. Yeah, yeah, that's... Room for improvement. Yes, definitely.
