Overview of treatment options for varicose veins

Hello, a short video describing the treatment options for the treatment of symptomatic varicose veins. There are various treatment options and we'll try to give you an overview of them in this video. We can separate these treatments into the treatment of the large truncal veins and the treatment of the varicocties. We're talking about superficial veins here and the truncal veins would be the long and short saphenous veins we talked about in other videos. The varicocties are the veins which lead into those truncal veins. So treatment of them involves disrupting the reversed flow or the refluxing flow from the deep veins to the superficial veins. So in terms of the first step, removal of the reflux in the truncal veins, and the second step is removal of the varicoses, depending on the clinical situation. How do we treat the truncal veins, i.e. the short and long or great and short saphenous veins? do endovenous ablation or you can do open surgery. So the endo approach would be the keyhole and the open surgery would be with general anaesthesia and the cuts. And then the varicoses can be treated by either foam sclerotherapy or by phlebectomies or avulsions.
