What are the risks of a coronary angiogram? The procedure itself is generally safe. The coronary angiogram itself has a risk of less than one in a thousand. The most common risks include pain, bleeding and bruising of the arm. There's a very small risk of stroke, a small risk of damage to the heart, a small risk of kidney failure and a small risk of needing emergency surgery due to damage and there's always a theoretical very low risk of mortality. With angioplasty the risk is less than one in a hundred and again is relatively safe but there is a very small risk associated of complication. The majority of cases as I've said are performed as day cases.
