What are some signs and symptoms of chronic kidney disease? I think as we touched on earlier, if you think of the kidneys as their job being to clean the blood, so if you've got chronic kidney disease the kidneys are not working so well, they're not cleaning the blood so well, then signs and symptoms would be feeling sick, perhaps getting a headache because you develop high blood pressure, people can start to feel very tired and at advanced stages of chronic kidney disease people can start to feel very itchy. Then we also mentioned that the kidneys they clean the blood and produce the waste product urine. If your kidneys are not working properly you don't produce adequate urine so fluid builds up in your body you develop swelling and that is classically ankle swelling. Now course there are many other causes of ankle swelling but people with advanced kidney impairment get swelling of their ankles and if not treated then that can get worse, your legs can swell up, people can get swelling around their eyes as well.
