Opinion on Preventative Mastectomy

Mr. Bakaji, these days we often hear of women having what they call prophylactic or preventative mastectomies for breast cancer. What's your opinion on that? So I think this is coming from the States. Increasingly in the US and we are seeing it also here in the UK, patients that have one-sided cancer often they come and say after going through the trauma of having treatment for breast cancer or even before going they come and say can you at the center do a prophylactic mastectomy on the other side. That is becoming a regular occurrence but increasingly the patients have to we have that discussion with the patient that actually what determines the long-term outcome is not the cancer that one is preventing it's having adequate treatment for the cancer that has been diagnosed. Now if one is to undertake major extensive surgery and have complication on the non-affected side and that delays and affects the rest of our treatment, adjuvant treatment, then the outcome is not so good. But I suspect the trend will be to have to see more women asking for prophylactic mastectomy. Thank you.
