In the past it used to just be surgery where patients have the lump taken out, often mastectomy, but with modern treatment of breast cancer, surgery does play an important role. Often chemotherapy, in some patients chemotherapy before the surgery to shrink the lump where you convert patients that did mastectomy to just having a lumpectomy and radiotherapy also plays a role. And if the cancer is estrogen positive, then endocrine treatment for between five to 10 years. And the changes of recent is that there are more and more options to treat patients.
