Introducing David Myers, ProPatient!

Hi, I'm David Myers and I am basically a chronic kidney dialysis and transplant patient. I've been a patient for 30 years. I spent nearly nine years on hemodialysis. I had my first transplant 20 years ago which wasn't meant to last more than a year but it actually kept me going for 18 years and two years ago I had a live kidney donation part of what's called the shared and pooled donation scheme. During the last 20 years I've done a lot of work for kidney patients mainly at the Royal Free Hospital so apart from running the kidney patients association I'm now life president. The other roles that I have at the Royal Free are I'm in my third term as a governor which is about to end after nine years in a year's time and I am also chair of the Royal Free Organ Donation Committee and that's the area where I spend most of my time now helping to promote and educate areas of organ donation to the areas of the communities that are least responsible to signing up on the organ donor register. My aim in life for the last 20 years has been to repay this fantastic NHS system for all the wonderful care and attention that I've had from the Royal Free and St Mary's and I continue to do that for as long as I have strength.
