Why is good blood pressure control important for surgery?

So the most important thing is that we don't just assess blood pressure in a single moment. It's all about trends and it can take months and years to get good blood pressure control. Around the time of an operation, anaesthetic, being unwell, getting a pneumonia or being sick from a medical issue, all of those things can affect your blood pressure. Again, being honest about whether or not you've been taking your medications that your GP has been prescribing, that's the first most important thing to tell us and we will do that hand in hand with you in terms of managing you around the time of the operation.
