What is impingement? So impingement simply is where the structures in the commonly the subacromial region and that includes the subacromial bursa and the rotator cuff muscles and tendon typically the tendons which is the supraspinatus infraspinatus and teres minor as we lift our arm it's thought that those structures impinge against the underside of the acromion, and often that is accompanied by a small spur, subacromial spur, which has developed over time on the underside of the acromion. And as we lift typically to the most critical position, which is 90 degrees, or when we lift the arm to a right angle, then that space is at its narrowest and smallest, and that's when the maximum impingement is thought to occur.
