What is a meniscal tear?

Good evening Professor Gods, can you please tell us what a meniscal tear is and how you manage them? So meniscal tears, first of all menisci are the thick cartilage, shock absorbers as they are known by patients that lie between the femur which is the thigh bone and the tibia, the leg bone. you've got one on each side of your knee, so the medial meniscus on the inside of your knee and the lateral meniscus on the outside of your knee. They are not the same shape and they act in different ways but their main goal is to try and preserve the joint by increasing the surface area and cushioning the knee as well as providing nutrition and lubrication to the knee joint itself. They are a fairly important structure to the knee and we should try and preserve them because they are an integral part to the integrity of the knee joint itself.
