What can I expect when recovering from an angioplasty? After angioplasty we would always recommend that you have someone at home with you for the first night just to ensure that if there is a problem which is very rare you do have someone to help you. The DVLA suggests that you are not allowed to drive for one week after an angioplasty but you are able to perform low-level activity, you are able to go walking and even do gentle exercise for the first week and as long as you're feeling well after that week and you've had no problem you're able to return to all activity as normal. After your procedure depending on the intervention you've had your cardiologist will often ask you to take two blood thinners for a period of a minimum of six months but usually a year after which you would then need to take a single blood thinner usually aspirin for life.
