How long does an angioplasty take? The looking, the diagnostic angiogram, takes 10 or 15 minutes and if you do require an angioplasty that can take up to an hour. Afterwards if we have gone up the wrist which is the most common route we sometimes have to go up the leg artery for technical reasons, you then have a tight band around the wrist just to enable that artery to heal up and the nursing team on the ward will reduce the pressure of that band over the next two to four hours as that artery heals up. You've not been put to sleep often, you've not been given sedation so straight after your procedure you are able to eat or drink and and walk around and after four to six hours, as long as your procedure has been uncomplicated and you feel well, you're able to go home.
