What are the differences between a gastric bypass and a gastric sleeve? A gastric bypass involves the formation of a small stomach. The bigger part of your stomach and 50 centimeters of the small intestine are bypassed. They don't see food anymore, but they are joined to the rest of your system later on in the intestine through an anastomosis. So, we have two joints, two surgical joints after the gastric bypass, whereas after the sleeve, we do not have any joints that take place. It is only that the stomach is made smaller. So the sleeve looks to be a simpler operation.
