How dangerous are instrumental deliveries?

Professor Teo, instrumental deliveries have had a very bad press and are thought of as dangerous. Are they dangerous? Well, instrumental deliveries obviously there are risks and benefits to delivering babies through vaginally and the most important thing is how the instruments are applied to the baby to facilitate minimal trauma and best outcome. There are some situations where it's almost too late to have a C-section, in the sense that it would be more traumatic to do a c-section than to attempt a Bajaj delivery. As long as the safety features have been adhered to and followed, then I think an instrumental delivery well applied and well executed will lead to a successful delivery with minimal trauma.
