Is there prevention for diabetic foot ulcers? There is, there is, and a bit like I was talking about with the podiatrists being the kind of GPs for your feet, putting a diabetic in touch with a podiatrist to do things like check the sensation, advise people and inspect people's footwear, for early ulcers or pressure points to trim back any hard skin called callus and to highlight when a patient has a deteriorating foot to the foot clinic and bring them in is a really really important part of the preventative network that we have in our region. Similarly for smaller things like toenails then we have the chiropractic service so yeah we have a good network in the community and recently we've had to improve the network by setting up a video link and so that what we have now is a once-monthly diabetic foot MDT where the first half of the MDT we look at patients in the hospital and the second half the community podiatrists dial in with patients they might have and we can discuss them.
