What to expect from your first appointment for varicose veins

Hi, in this short video we're going to talk about what to expect from your first appointment with vascular surgery. Initially you need to tell your surgeon about your varicose veins. Things to mention would be how long you've had them for and what symptoms they cause you. Things to look out for in terms of symptoms would include leg discomfort or swelling, potentially worse as the day goes on, and symptoms which improve with leg elevation. What should you bring to the appointment? A list of your current medications, any medical records you might have, and any questions that you might want to ask. What will happen at the end of the appointment? You and your doctor will discuss a plan together for your treatment and book a follow-up appointment. If we think that your varicose veins are due to venous reflux, we'll arrange for a duplex ultrasound scan either the day or following.
