Usually, screening is done in patients who don't have any symptoms, but if you do have any symptoms such as palpitations, which is an awareness of your heartbeat, sometimes patients describe this as a fluttering sensation in their chest or like a butterfly feeling their chest then you should be considered for screening of atrial fibrillation. There are other signs that may be associated with atrial fibrillation and these are more subtle symptoms such as tiredness. You may have a change in your exercise tolerance i.e. the walk that you do on a regular basis you might find that this is much harder for you. You may also get symptoms of breathlessness.
