Depending on the level of amputation and depending on the number of complex procedures that one might need to perform and provided their general medical status and their diabetes is well controlled and they normalized, I would suggest that they should heal within two to four weeks following a simple toe amputation. A midfoot amputation will obviously depend on the patency of the arterial and vascular venous flowing to the foot and out of the foot and whether they have a stable diabetes. I've known patients with a transmetatarsal amputation, midfoot amputation to lie on a ward for weeks and not heal because their general medical history is such that they not normalized and they have peripheral perfusion. It's always important to get their perfusions resolved initially and then for them to be medically normalized and then do the amputation. You stand a better chance of healing.
