What is the recovery after open and endovascular repair?

Let's put it like this, if you and your identical sibling have an operation on your aneurysm on the same day and one of you has an open aneurysm repair and the other has an EVAR and I come and see you the next day it is going to be absolutely screamingly obvious which of you has had which operation. Open aneurysm surgery is substantial surgery, it has a substantial impact on your physiology and the way you feel and it takes a while to recover from that opening of the abdomen in order to gain access to the aneurysm. EVAR is minimally invasive, two, three small cuts and minimal impact on your overall physiology. Now, go a few days down the line and there may be differences in outcome, but the initial recovery, the recovery to discharge from hospital of those two procedures, even two procedures that both went well is going to be quite significantly different.
