Good evening everyone. So here we are today, we are talking about cataracts. So what is a cataract in particular? So if we have a look on the model of the human eye The outer layer is called the cornea and that is the clear transparent layer in the front of the eye And let's dissect the eye layer by layer Put this to the side After the cornea comes the iris which is the coloured part, and behind that comes the crystalline lens. So all the human eyes, more or less, are born with a crystalline lens. This lens is clear throughout our entire lives. When this lens develops any sort of opacity or cloudiness, that is called a cataract. So this lens, instead of being transparent, instead of allowing all the light to go inside of the eye, to fall at the back of the eye and the retina, it starts to block some of the light rays and that is what's called a cataract. This is something that almost everyone would get for the very simple reason that everyone has a crystalline lens in each eye, so we would get two cataracts in our lifetime. So this is just a recollection of what we said earlier. This is a cross-section, a very nice photo of the eye, a very nice diagram. And again, the lens is particularly in the anterior third of the eye. And it's behind the iris. And that iris, the space inside of that is called the pupil.
