What dressings would you use for diabetic foot ulcers?

of dressing would you use on diabetic wounds? So this is an individual decision made according to somebody's ulcer. This is a decision usually made by members of the multi-disciplinary team and the podiatrists are the experts at this normally and so it depends on the characteristics of the ulcer. So it's a very individual approach. There are a number of dressings out there. Common dressings used are inadene, which is an iodine based dressing, often used under gauze and hyperfix tape is a very common dressing. However, there are now a number of newer dressings that have been come on a scene, which show that they can help ulcers to heal more than standard dressings like inadene and gauze. So there's a dressing called Ergostart, which shows that the contents of that dressing has a special chemical within it, and that helps ulcers to heal greater standard dressings. There's also dressings that contain donated human placental tissue and they show that they can help dressings to heal better than standard dressings. So what happens is they come almost entirely from the US where they have this, this happens more frequently where women will donate their placenta after giving birth and then the amniotic membrane is stripped out and is then cryo-preserved, dried and cryo-preserved, and then forms an interior part of the dressing and is applied to the wound. And it contains a lot of cells that help to exploit healing. And there's some good quality randomized controlled trials showing that these dressings help. And we've done a trial here showing that they help speed up healing. There's also a another of a very recent dressing kind of a variety of dressing called a 3C patch which we've been using as well. A 3C patch is a advanced dressing used in people whose ulcers are slow to heal with standard care and these there's a good trial run from the team showing the 3C patch helps healing in hard to heal wounds. A 3C patch is derived by taking blood from somebody using a special blood tube, taking blood just from the vein as people do normally, spinning that blood in a centrifuge and a filter and that tube then filters out the fibrin and the platelets cells that help ulcers to heal and you get a disc of tissue which is applied under a dressing and left for a week and we've been using those and our experience as well as the the trial experience shows that they help with ulcers to heal as well. So there are a variety of advanced dressings that have now been shown to help heal things that weren't available only a few years ago which is exciting for helping ulcer healing.
