What are the main treatments for Atrial Fibrillation

So, the treatments for atrial fibrillation can be split into two sections. Section one is treating the stroke risk with blood thinners. An assessment by your doctor will be made whether you require blood thinners and then you'll be put on blood thinners if you're deemed to be high enough increased risk of having stroke. The second treatment is based on controlling the heart rate because the heart's beating irregularly it goes faster than usual and a lot of the symptoms and damage that can be done to the heart is due to that reason. So we can control the heart rate to get it to a normal rate and then the other part of that is to control the rhythm. You can try and control the heart rhythm to get it back to beating normally again and that's there's different ways of doing that but there's one option is to shock the heart back to normal and that's very simple procedure you come in you have a short anesthetic and a shock back to normal to normal rhythm. There are other ways of trying to keep the heart in normal rhythm with using medication and stronger medication to keep the heart in normal rhythm or procedures called ablation where we burn away the trigger for where the atrial fibrillation comes from to try and keep people in normal rhythm.
