Usage & side effects of steroid cream

Steroid creams are generally advised for a short period of time, so not over extended durations because they can be associated with skin thinning. However, in a certain group of patients where it does not settle and may require a prolonged course of steroid creams. The other advice with steroid creams is also to apply a very thin layer rather than applying thick layers because all you want is that immediate effect on the local area rather than applying heaps off the cream which can have detrimental effects. Topical absorption generally is only associated with skin thinning however if you were to take oral steroids for more advanced conditions there are side effects with steroids and these include things like weight gain, impaired glucose control, skin and hair thinning, so on and so forth.
