Nailsea Leg Club

When we found out that we'd won the award, I was so proud. The nurses worked so very hard. It was just over the moon. I think it's great that their work has been acknowledged. The aim of the leg club really is to look after people who have concerns about their lower limb. Alongside of that, we have a team of volunteers who look after their social welfare and the idea of that is to enhance their health and well-being. Our members really benefit from the Leg Club because they get a very good clinical treatment from highly qualified nurses. On the social side, it's really important that our members have the opportunity to have a good long chat. They can't get out because their legs are often heavily bandaged or their mobility is poor. Coming to Leg Club gives them the opportunity to get involved with their community again and to share some of their life with the volunteers. The Leg Club isn't just about the patients coming for their legs to be dressed or seen by a nurse, it's also about them having the emotional support by the volunteers and the other members. It's a huge thing to walk away with an award. For me, it was just an amazing night, really good atmosphere, lots of support, lots of congratulations, and it really does give you a massive boost to carry on doing the work that we do here. It gives the recognition especially to the to the GP surgeries who provide the nursing support is that this is a really good thing and we need to keep it going. More people we can get here, the more members we can get, the more lives we can change. There's so much that goes on and people just don't realise how hard people work and the support people give and in their own time a lot of these people are volunteers that make such difference to people's lives. This particular award is is a great way of raising the profile of the Lead Club. The thing about the Lead Club is it's a fairly unique model. And I think what it will do is show people that we don't have to do things the way we've done them for the last 20 or 30 years. The perfect future for the Lead Club is to continue to develop, is to continue to see the people who need to be seen, and provide a fantastic service in the community. you
