Is EVAR surgery safe?

Is EVAR surgery safe? In the UK the mortality rate or the death rate from EVAR is half of a percent so less than one percent so in terms of the risk of death then it is considered to be very safe and the risk of complications or morbidities during the procedure are also very low due to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure and certainly as time has gone on and experience has improved, the quality of imaging has got better and perioperative care has improved, then we've seen that morbidity around the procedure has decreased enormously. Most of the patients at my institution will go home the next day following their EVAR surgery. The question about long-term durability is the perhaps the recurrent issue with EVAR. So I guess that relates to a longer-term follow-up, but certainly in the perioperative period, so in the first few days following surgery, I would say it's a very safe procedure. There are obviously more high risk and more complex types of EVAR but in the what we would call the standard patient it's a very safe procedure.
