I feel well. Why should I be screened for Atrial Fibrillation

This is a great question and a very common question. It is not always the case that you will develop symptoms when you have atrial fibrillation. But even if you don't have any symptoms, by the mere fact that you have the atrial fibrillation, this in itself is associated with a stroke risk. What that means is that you can have an abnormality of the heartbeat, you can not be aware that you have this abnormality of the heartbeat, but it gives you a risk which can be associated with a stroke. And this is the major reason for wanting to treat patients who have atrial fibrillation. And this is the major reason for screening patients who don't have any symptoms but have a condition which confers an additional risk of having a stroke.
