How to promote surgical wound healing?

Promotion of good wound healing involves addressing all the factors which would prevent wound healing or would encourage wound healing. Patient factors include optimising patients' diabetic control if they are diabetic, improving their nutrition and addressing other factors, for example, their circulation. If the blood supply to the area which is trying to heal is not good, you can try to improve that to encourage wound healing. Similarly, if the patient has a vein problem, you can address that vein problem to try to boost the wound healing. Other factors include improving the patient's nutrition, wound care with regular dressings and cleaning of the wound and also ensuring that other factors are controlled such as patient not smoking.
