How long do antibiotic treatments for Cellulitis last?

The duration of treatment with antibiotics is very variable. If it is a mild infection, it is likely that somewhere between a five and a ten day course of oral antibiotics is all that you will require. If it is a much more severe infection you will probably need anything up to a five-day course of IV antibiotics. It is certainly possible that if it is felt that you need to have a longer course of antibiotics that you may be sent home from hospital with what is called a PICC line in so that they can continue having IV antibiotics administered but in the majority of cases somebody will be converted to oral antibiotics. Each Each patient is an individual and the duration will be assessed by the clinician looking after them, but in many cases people will be required to take antibiotics for anything up to six weeks.
