I'm going to screen share with you and show you some behaviors and conditions and you can tell me if which ones of these are relevant to you. So I will screen share this bit and I will these are eight behaviors that contribute to lots of chronic illnesses So healthy diet, participation in screening, smoking cessation, alcohol moderation, sufficient sleep, engagement with health care, stress management, physical activity. And then just have a think about those. And then there's these conditions, sort of characteristics, which are associated with having good health. good health, so owning my own health, knowing I can cope when I need a healthcare provider, confident in my self-care capability, confidence in being effective, knowing what it meds do, able to communicate, confidence to alert my healthcare provider, able to prevent problems happening, knowing my condition issues and causes, maintaining lifestyle changes, confident that you can problem solve when solve problems when they happen know what treatments are available and maintain lifestyle changes during periods of stress okay so i want you to have a think about the behaviors and these conditions and just uh have a think about them and say you know which ones are particularly relevant to you in the coming season uh well so owning my own health is is important. I have been suffering a little bit with a bowel condition for over a year, which I went to the doctors about. Hang on, let me mute myself and then you can sort of tell me more formally. Hang on, stop sharing. There we go. And then, yeah, so you got to pick one or two or however many of you, all those behaviors and those characteristics and I'll shut up and allow you to speak now. Okay, well, I suppose, as I said, owning my own health is probably important. I live on my own as the boys worry about me now and again, but, you know, nothing, but as I was saying, I have been suffering a bit with my bowel condition and flatulence for about 11 months now. I've had a colonoscopy, which I didn't find, Well, they couldn't complete the colonoscopy because they couldn't get the tube around some part of my colon. So then I had to go for a CT scan and whatever. The good news was that I didn't have bowel cancer, so that was nice. But I have been suffering, as I say, from a lot of wind and flatulence and going to the loo three or four times a day. So I was referred to about to another clinic and they're gonna send me for an MRI scan because there's a possibility I may have Crohn's disease so I don't quite know what that means but it was going to be Matt this could be managed by steroids or whatever but obviously until I get that until I get the date from the scan. I don't know. But as regards to approaching the doctor of professional, I don't find that an issue apart from getting an appointment sometimes. Everybody's been quite helpful about that. I have to see my, well not my GP, the diabetes nurse every year because I'm on the cusp of type 2 diabetes. I was I was told I had that about, I can't remember now, must be at least 16-ish, 15 years ago. And that's, I just take three metformin tablets a day for that and it doesn't cause me any problem. I also, when I was at work, which was a long time ago, we had one of these annual checkups which said I had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. But again, I take medicines for those every day, excuse me, and they're nothing worried about. I just have a check and a blood test and stick a needle in your feet and get weighed and whatever. And that happens every year. They were a little bit worried about my blood pressure, So I had to go on a seven day take your blood pressure home trial. But that was, well, I presume it was quite normal because I sent the results back about six, seven weeks ago and I've not heard from them. So I think I thought they might have told me. So yeah, I'm not backwards and going forwards to speak to the doctor, but I'm, you know, I'm not one of those who thinks, Oh my God, I've got a cold. I'll go and rush off on whatever. We've got a good pharmacy up the road, which is only two minutes walk. So I can go in there if I need to know anything and they're helpful. You know, I've had my flu jab there. I've had all my COVID jabs and whatever. So I didn't do my last bowel screening thing bowel screening thing because it was a couple of years since I did the last one because I just had the colonoscopy and everything was alright so I rang up and said do you want me to do it again and they said no just wait another couple of years. What else have I had? I've had the lung screening, I've had kidney screening because Leeds were offering that, I think it was the university. All that was clear and fine but so I'm not averse to going for anything I'm asked to do. You obviously know I went for the triple A screening. It started me on a very illustrious career but so that's it. Does that answer many of these? That's my confidence in alerting an HCP I suppose. I try to look after myself by doing exercise. I don't do enough exercise. I appreciate that. I probably drink two or three bottles of wine a week, which probably isn't very helpful. Very rarely go to the pub. If I go to a football match with my friend, we might go for one drink before the game if we can get in because it's busy. Treatment for my condition, well I just take the tablets and do as I'm told really. I say everything is fairly safe and level at the moment and it's not getting worse.
