Does superficial vein thrombosis cause VTE or venous thromboembolism? So yes it does, so we discussed previously in other videos that how the superficial vein thrombosis can extend and propagate into the deep veins because the superficial veins and deep veins are connected and that can then cause a DVT which is part of the VTE condition. From here the blood clot can dislodge in the deep veins and spread to the lungs and cause a pulmonary embolism too or PE.
