Different types of wound healing

So, surgical wounds can either heal by what's called primary intention, where the edges of the wound are closed together with either staples, stitches, steristrips or glue and the wound will heal in a straight line. Wound healing by secondary intention is where the wound is left open to heal from the inside out. This is often used for infected wounds or wounds with pus which has been removed from it. This often results in a wound which is wider than a wound which would have healed by primary intention.
