At this time of the year what's the one thing that concerns you most about your Diabetes?

Winter can bring with it a few more trials and tribulations when it comes to diabetes and many of our community often stop to think about these things as winter approaches. Having concerns is not a bad thing at all as it means you can start to find ways to improve the situation, and here our health-shared community share what their top most worries are. Diabetes is one of those medical conditions that can effect so many of the body’s organs but there are other lifestyle changes that can help reduce the risks that you have just heard about. This fortnight health-shared in the diabetes community is going to concentrate on smoking cessation. We appreciate that stopping smoking is no easy task but understanding what the benefits will be and talking to others who have faced this challenge in our community is a support structure that increases the likelihood of success.

When you wake up in the morning and you don't feel great, what's the thing that gets you moving? What's your top tip, that first step that you take and how and what enables you to achieve it? On the days when you're feeling fantastic, what do you like to do and what really makes you smile? There are days when everything seems gloomy and grey but we just need to find a way to get moving, get on with our day. Sometimes it's just taking that first step that we need some motivation for. It's so different on days when we feel fantastic because we can achieve a goal or something that just makes us smile. Just stop, have a cup of tea, go for a walk, come back and then reignite it and that sort of of, that works really well. Take regular breaks, you know, go off the internet, surf the internet for, I don't know, racing cars or planes, whatever your thing is, and kind of balance the day out. So you achieve X amount in each day, and then, you know, have a bit of fun at the end of that day. So you're enjoying your work, but you're also enjoying old saying again, all work and no play makes Jack a very dull boy. All play and no work makes Jack a very dull boy, but a balance between the two is very, very important. Again, it's a work-life balance, if you like. On the day I feel really good is the day when I get to see my grandchildren, and they make me smile. We take long walks. This is the second year running they've been with me on Diabetes UK's One Million Step Challenge and we just received our medals and the trophy and so yeah for me they are my smile of the day or make me smile anytime. Oh I wish there were lots of those days. No I there are days that I feel fantastic and I get up and I get dressed and I put on a face of makeup and I feel good and you kind of self-care becomes really important when you're feeling fantastic you want to like I feel like you know today I look good today I'm gonna you know walk down the street and I'm gonna feel confident in what I do and kind of like get more jobs done when I feel fantastic as well because I am motivated by a different thing it's like being on emotional high What I notice is that we feed off each other's good vibes. So when you feel good, even if somebody is not feeling so great, you can make the other person feel a lot better. And so you do that in turn. So when somebody gives you a compliment, you compliment somebody else and you say, you're doing a really great job. You deserve all the accolades that you're getting because you're doing a great job. And that kind of motivates you even more. So yeah, when I feel good, I wanna motivate other people to feel good. in general, you know, when I hear that a patient that I followed up for a long time, you know, managed finally to achieve something in his life that didn't, was not able to do before, I feel happy, obviously, because I know that somehow by improving his health, I contribute, you know, to the patient to achieve that particular target. So that makes me feel very happy. And it happens very often. It's very satisfactory, you know, as a healthcare professional when finally we help the whole life of our kids, you know. Being human means we are never the same from one day to the next. It's alright not to be sure of yourself all of the time. Diabetes is a complex medical condition and it can be a minefield to negotiate. There are times when your diabetes will give you those highs and those lows that you just have heard about from our community members and it's okay to seek professional help as well. We at Healthshare.com want to support your thoughts and your decisions and help you feel safe in where you need to turn to next. you
