Are there contraindications to using an insulin pump?

Are there any contraindications to having an insulin pump? I think they're not necessarily a contraindication but sometimes what we found useful is to establish the right expectations at the very start so people know what to expect from pump therapy. What can happen that if you start with wrong expectations, you might have patients who fail to achieve what they actually wanted to achieve off the pump. And you have to be realistic about what you achieve from it. There are no essential obvious contraindications for pump therapy as such. I think maybe patients, when you do individual patient selection, it has to be quite cautious. I think three contraindications which are suggested by the DTN UK network is if you have proliferative retinopathy in your eyes, secondarily if you have, so you need to have C-like disease or if you have mental health issues then they all need to be optimised before you move on to pump therapy. So I think those would be considered contraindications unless they've been properly managed pre-pump insulin starts.
