Hello Mr Mejde, can you please tell us what an Achilles tendon injury is? Yeah sure, so an Achilles tendon is one of the strongest tendons in the body and it's quite common to get it injured and there are various types of injuries that can happen but the commonest one that we will come across is an Achilles rupture so if you look at this diagram here this is the back of your calf coming down and it forms the Achilles tendon and it attaches onto your heel and what the Achilles does if you can look at this model here you'll see that as the Achilles tightens it pulls the foot up and down because it attaches on the back of your heel so that's the movement if that tendon is torn you won't be able to push off and you won't be able to run and so it will affect your mobility to stand on tiptoes and to run and walk. That's why it's quite an important tendon to repair if it does get ruptured.
