Antibiotic coated sutures provide the theoretical benefit of preventing bacteria from growing within the suture and resulting in the wound becoming infected. This shouldn't be the primary mechanism by which we prevent wound infection, but can be part of a multifactorial, multipronged approach to trying to reduce wound infection, including optimising patient factors, optimising wound factors, regular dressings and wound care. you
