Is there a particular condition that causes Charles Bonnet Syndrome?

Is there a particular condition which causes someone to develop Charles Bonnet syndrome? No. It's entirely to do with sight loss. So this can happen from any one of the hundreds of eye diseases from stroke, cancer of the eye, accident to the eye, diabetes, multiple sclerosis or another condition which damages the optic nerve. The problem is that unless a doctor of some kind, an ophthalmologist, a GP, an optometrist or some other healthcare professional mentions it to you, you are likely immediately to think you have developed a mental health condition and this is absolutely not so. I cannot stress this strongly enough. It is entirely the brain firing up and creating its own images. If I could persuade all the doctors to understand CVS we probably would be in a much better position but at the moment they don't all recognize the symptoms in somebody. If you are concerned that you have developed some hallucinations then please contact your GP and tell them about Charles Bonnet syndrome just in case they have never heard of it.
