What is the Pancreas Gland?

Dr Sheharyar Quraishi, Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist talks about what it means to have Type 1 Diabetes. He talks about the relationship with insulin and usual age when it's picked up. Lastly he explains the relationship to the pancreas gland in the belly and what period of time it takes individuals to develop Type 1 Diabetes.

Dr Sheharyar Quraishi, Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist explains what the complications of Type 1 Diabetes can get. He explains that taking Insulin is absolutely essential and not taking it can potentially be life threatening. He mentions various complications with organs in your body if Diabetes is not well controlled. Dr Quraishi talks about it being a lifelong condition which should be managed in collaboration with a Specialist Endocrinologist (Diabetologist).

Dr Mushtaqur Rahman, Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist talks about being weight as being an important factor. He talks about the body becoming relatively resistant to Insulin. During pregnancy, the placenta produces hormone which increase the blood sugar - normally insulin is released which brings this back down but in women with Gestational Diabetes the insulin does not act as it should.
