How is an endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty performed?

An endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is performed under anesthesia and the operator will introduce an endoscope and pass it down into the stomach. This endoscope has a specialized suturing device at its tip and the operator will then take bites in the lining of the stomach, full thickness bites to narrow the stomach from the inside, thereby reducing its caliber and volume. As a consequence, patients will be able to eat less food and this will result in weight loss.
