Ideally, we would like to avoid those. Now, if you can imagine your foot to be like one of those low weight bridges that you see when you're driving around, your foot is like an arch like like that bridge and sometimes when you have factors that are affecting that that bridge it can cause it to collapse. Now those factors include the fact that you are unable to feel the the movement also it can be weight itself that's putting that which is why you know heavy lorries aren't supposed to go over those bridges because after a while it will just collapse. So therefore it is important that you do attend to not just your blood glucose control but your weight as well. Now, unfortunately, once you have nerve damage, it does mean that it won't come back. But what it means is that you have to therefore pay greater attention to your feet. You should look at your, examine your feet every day. You should make sure that you're not, you know, putting your foot against a radiator, which is hot because you won't feel the heat. It's the same thing we have when patients go on holiday, they walk on burning hot sand and they don't feel the temperatures and they come on with burns and again the skin gets broken and you get infection coming in. So you should examine your feet regularly, you should look at your footwear, avoid certain types of footwear which cause your foot to slip around such as sandals or slip-on shoes. You should have shoes that are lace-ups as well as those with straps. You shouldn't walk around barefoot. Now if for cultural reasons you don't like shoes in the house, you should have shoes that you use in the house and shoes that you use outside the house. So these are basically measures you take to protect you because your body has lost the ability to pick up certain sensations.
